Note: The first reading, Stasis Theory as a Strategy for Workplace Teaming and Decision Making, was not read; the link was not accessible.
The second reading, Wolf's Team Writing, offered arguments for exigence and relevance for effective and critically-aware team writing and, also, strategies for managing a team. Team writing can be very demanding since the process requires all member of a team to work collaboratively and in an organized manner. The demands in a team writing project are high because it is expected to be a great one since there are multiple minds putting ideas together. However, for a team to work more effectively, there should be a relevant idea among the group as a whole meaning that everyone should have a sense of what it is being worked on. Everyone should have a foundation about the topic in order to stay on track. This way the project will have a smooth transition from section to section. These are some ideas that were not expressed in this assigned reading, but that I believe are important to consider.
Strategies offered in this piece of writing are very useful and should be considered in this project. First of all, we should have a project manager to ensure that the project moves forward and in the right direction. This person is responsible for keeping the teammates on track and focus on the main goal of the project. We all have to work as a team, but this one person will keep pushing us forward towards the completion of the project. Next, we should have a plan on how the project will develop. This plan will consist of steps like the writing process: brainstorming, conducting research, writing a draft, discussing and revising the draft, and preparing final presentations. During this process we should consider collaboration methods that were discussed in the reading. The face-to-face method allows the group to meet and write the project together, however, not everyone might be able to meet at the same time. The divided method consists of everyone getting different parts of the project to write and each one is responsible for that one part. This method sounds great, yet, it constricts the amount of collaboration and expression of ideas for the overall finished product. The third method, layered, consists of each teammate having a specific role in the group and just adding to the part of the project where they see that could have more to discuss. In other words everyone adds their own expertise to any part or parts to the project and contributes more. An important point to keep is that not just one method guarantees the completion of the project in a satisfactory manner. Therefore, changing the method of collaboration, according to stage, is more effective and allows flexibility of exchange of ideas throughout the project. Take these tips into consideration and you will have a better experience working with others.
