Have you ever had a day where you just crave cheesecake and flan and the same time, but you do not want to go through the hassle of making both deserts? There is a way to combine these two deserts in one in just some simple steps. Before we start, this instructional guide is meant to be used by anyone, from being a novice to an experienced baker. This guide has steps and images that will help you in the process of making this recipe. It also includes two variations to the recipe that can give a twist to your taste buds. This instruction guide is easy to follow, unlike other guides that are mainly organized in paragraph format which can be confusing. In less than two hours you will have a delicious Cheese Flan which will evolve different sensations in everyone's tongue.

Things You'll Need

  • Medium size saucepan
  • 2 quart dish
  • Large bowl
  • Blender
  • Large shallow aluminum pan
  • Oven
  • Oven Mitts

 

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar, divided into 1 cup and a 1/2 cup
  • 7 eggs
  • 1 (14 ounce) can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 3/4 cup of milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract 
  • 1 (8 ounce) package of cream cheese
  • NOTE: If you want to spark it up, add 1 teaspoon of shredded coconut and wine as desired

 

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In the small-sized saucepan, cook 1 cup of sugar on medium heat and stir consistently for 5 minutes, or until the sugar turn into a light golden brown.
  3. Pour the hot caramelized sugar into the 2 quart dish quickly.
  4. Using oven mitts, tilt the dish so that the sugar can spread out on the dish evenly coating the bottom and the sides of the dish. Let it stand 5 minutes and it will harden.
  5. Blend together:
    • eggs
    • can of sweetened milk
    • can of evaporated milk
    • milk
    • vanilla extract
    • sugar 
    • cream cheese 
    • NOTE: If you want to add wine, do so in this step.

           Pour the mixture in the bowl over the caramelized sugar

    • NOTE: If adding coconut, sprinkle it on top of the mixture in this step

    7.   Place the dish in the aluminum shallow pan.

    8.   Add hot water to the pan to a depth of 1/3 up of sides of the dish containing the mixture.
    9.    Bake for 1 hour 15 minutes. To double check, insert a knife and if it comes out clean, then, it's ready. If not, let it bake for a couple more minutes.

          Using your mitts, remove the dish from the water bath and let it cool on a wire rack.

   11.  Cover and place it in the fridge to chill for 3 hours.
   12.   Take out the dish and run a knife around the edge of the flan to loosen.
