Benjamin's Project 2 Planning Guide

Definition of Goals: To teach the user how to play a B Dorian scale on piano. I want to convince my readers that learning this scale is easy and this is the best way to learn it.

Analysis of Intended Readers: These instructions will teach you a piano scale. You need to know what a piano is. There will be no other materials necessary other than a piano and your hand. You must sit down at your keyboard/piano and follow the instructions. Troubleshooting will be at a minimum.

A brief analysis of the Wikihow community: I found some similar entries: http://www.wikihow.com/Play-the-C-Scale-on-the-Pianohttp://www.wikihow.com/Play-Scales-on-the-Piano-Using-Two-and-Three-Black-Key-Fingeringhttp://www.wikihow.com/Play-the-G-Major-Scale-on-Piano. These examples have good points, like the quality of their graphics. But overall there tone and approach could be altered. A more structured approach

I would like to embody the the graphic styles and approach to this article: http://www.wikihow.com/Remember-Scales-and-Arpeggios. It takes the approach of labeling both your finger as numbers, and explaining each note. This is in accordance with good piano teaching practices.

A brief statement of the research: Most of my research would go into graphic construction. The music theory portion is already established. I should ask my piano students for feedback. They can also be used as my testing subjects.

A full draft of all steps in the "Directions" or "Procedure":

Explain "Dorian" is a mode?

(Label the right hand's fingers 1 - 5)

(Label note names that will be played)

Starting Position on B (Labeled Root)

Play next two notes (with labeled fingers and note names)

Explain thumb under transition

continue scale with finger numbers and note names.

Possibly repeat with left hand?
