Short Written Assignment 2

I found that most interesting part of this reading was the emphasis of the design of your resume. It made me think about how my own resume. I do have bullet points, bold font and headers to make my resume have nice layout. However,  in this chapter it mentioned using tables and removing the borders. This is something I have thought about in the past but was not convinced until I read it in the actual text.

After viewing jobs on indeed.com I was able to find two potential jobs that meet my requirements.  One of the jobs I found was Workforce Analyst Auburn Hills. One of the requirements is continuously monitoring Service levels and occupancy. I currently do service levels every 2 hours at my job. The company would me Comerica and it is located in Auburn Hills. The job would be very similar to my current job working at a call center.

The second company I saw was a Data Analyst for Quicken Loans Company. This company is well known throughout Michigan for their work ethics yet friendly environment. Some of the requirements for this position: to be intermediate level with Excel skills including VLOOKUP function, Pivot Tables and formulas. These are all things I have worked with before. I have created many of these excel workbooks which include complex formulas to assist with analyzing data.

I will write a resume that is page long. The reasoning behind this is because the employer will spend less than a minute to reach each resume (Page 26). I want the employer to be able to see all my key points in the resume as quickly as possible. If I were to make my resume too long they might get distracted and lose interest. As well I personally feel if you make your resume too long it comes off as trying too hard.

On my resume I would include all the software courses I have taken. The jobs I will be applying for will be interested in seeing how many software I can develop in. I would mention that I am advanced in the following software: Excel, Access and Dreamweaver. I will defiantly mention languages I can program in such as HTML, VBA,C++ and JavaScript.
