Professor Grogan,
My name is Tiarra Cody, and I am a sophomore here at Wayne State. I am writing this e-mail trying to get a spot in your ENG 3050 class. I am not one hundred percent sure what field I plan on going into, however I do have some ideas. This course would count for my intermediate composition credit. I know I am not the best writer. However, I am willing and eager to learn technical writing skills.
I am currently a Pre-Physical Therapy Major. A lot of my classes line up with being a Mathematics Major. I really do enjoy math and would not mind making it my career. Many people I have talked to told me there are plenty careers that even math, but I am still not convinced. I enrolled in B E 1200, which is an engineering class. I would become an engineer if I find it enjoyable. At, the end of the day, I want the perfect balance of a career that pays well and I enjoy.
I do not think I am a great writer; nor do I think I am horrible. I have always done decent written assignments. One of my weaknesses as a writer is my limited vocabulary. High school teachers tried to expand my vocabulary, but I never retained the words. I know the basic outline of a paper, and I would consider that a strength. When I have papers I would usually have other look over them, but I never really tried to perfect my writing skills. As I get older I realize that writing is important in any field. Your writing class will teach me how to write as a professional in a field I will likely join.
Even though I am not a confident writer, I do have great ideas. Problem solving is something I enjoy. I look forward to completing Project Three from your syllabus. Teamwork is only done right if everybody participates. I know that I am a spectacular teammate.
I hope that you will consider offering me a spot in your class.
