Professional Webpage and Career Portfolio

Introduction / Rationale: Integrating a portfolio of appropriate work and a digital resume can provide employers with a more well-rounded picture of an applicant's capabilities than either document set alone, and composing such a volume can help a job seeker to focus his or her abilities and strengths.

Assignment Prompt:

This semester-long project involves several components working together.

  • Digital Résumé and Cover Letter. Create a website that incorporates the content of your resume and cover letter in such a way as to provide additional functionality: enhanced graphical content, access and navigability linking, and some means of accessing additional online content.

  • Digital Document Archive.  Convert the documents you complete for this class into web pages and provide links to those documents in your digital resume and/or cover letter, as appropriate.

  • Connected Web Support.  Include at least three links to institutions, organizations, or businesses with which you are involved so that a potential employer can more easily research your credentials.

Remember that this project will be updated over the course of the entire semester, but you will have tremendous freedom regarding the final format this portfolio takes.  Review the examples of your peers and the provided examples, and learn appropriate tools like Weebly, Wix, Wordpress and even PBWorks. Finding the relevant resources to support your portfolio is fairly straightforward.  You will be composing documents in class, and digital copies will remain on the wiki for the duration of this semester.

Learning Objective:

You will analyze your own writing and experience within the concept of the current job market, and will practice tailoring their experience set to better attract potential employers.

Minimum Requirements:

  • One digitally integrated résumé of approximately 350 words with links to supplemental content (course project documents and external resources).

  • One digitally integrated cover letter of approximately 350 words with links to supplemental content (course project documents and external resources).

  • Electronic copies of at least three course documents, accessible from either the cover letter OR résumé pages.
