Hello Professor Grogan,

I am Tre’Lon Hunt, a student hoping to acquire permission to take the course ENG 3050.

I’m a transfer student currently studying Mechanical Engineering Technology. As an engineer I need to know how to properly communicate and write reports to complete jobs within my career. I believe that this course is more relevant to my career goals than the other available English courses.

I have already completed the prerequisite course with an A- grade.

I’ve taken at least one English class per year throughout my entire academic career.

I chose to apply for this course because the course teaches information that will be needed throughout the entirety of my career and can still be useful in my academic career as well as throughout life. This course directly impacts my career and I feel that it teaches much needed modern information on communication than the usual mainstream English classes then I’ve had in the past.

I believe that my presence will be beneficial to the class setting because I make sure come to every class prepared and on time. I’m always willing to give input during discussions and I’m usually one of the first students to do so. I’m not hesitant to ask questions when it’s something I don’t understand or could use a better explanation of, which can help other students who tend not to ask questions for whatever reason that may be.

I have always been an above average English student throughout my academic career. I tend to excel in grammar, spelling, subject matter, and word choice. I usually write great papers when given a topic instead of choosing one on my own.

I could use better organization skills and my topics tend to be either over or under detailed but my papers usually receive overall above average grades. My reading is also lacking as I tend to quickly become disinterested and put to sleep while reading but I have been reading more often than usual as of late so this is subject to change.

I hope to be able to get your permission to take this course so I can learn all the skills the class has to offer.
