Task 1: Cover Letter

Pros:

  • Well typed intro paragraph
    • Tells much about your aspiration.  Great way to persuade the employers at the start.
  • Good start in the use of an life example (project example) in the second paragraph.
    • For credibility
  • Overall, content is very strong and very persuasive

Cons:

  • First glance, you will need the address for DTE Energy
    • Also add in "Human Resources", because most documents (resumes, cover letter, etc.) are sent to them
  • Also add your name, home address, and phone number above the date
    • There could be times where you may have to submit both the resume and the cover letter by mail.  And by chance the resume is lost, they can contact you for another copy.  Better safe.
    • You may not need to introduce your name again.  Though we recommend still saying in the lines of applying for Co-op position.
  • Add "Enclosure: Resume" on the bottom.
  • Add a little more detail pertaining your work on the project in Basic Engineering.  What did you do specifically and what skill did you contribute?
  • One little grammatical mistake.
    • Add a comma for a brief pause.  In my previous Basic Engineering course, I had a project in which the goal was to work in a group and engineer a plan to solve a drainage problem of a plot of land.

Task 2: Resume

Pros:

  • A ton of work experience
    • Which makes this experiential type resume

Cons:

  • Make your Objective more persuasive.
    • What kind of impact will you do for the impact pertaining the internship program? And not just "I'm looking for a job position".
  • Organize your dates on top of each other.
    • Grid like system
  • Please specify what kind of degree are you going for currently underneath "Education" section
  • Bold a couple of keywords.  Like your GPA.
    • Employers may want to compare what you have currently to their job post.  Anything in bold letters will stand out.
  • Please line up "Coached Basketball players"  with the location in Volunteer work

Task 3: Professional Webpage

Pros:

  • Good use of a quote
    • Makes your webpage very unique
  • Good links to organizations / previous employers

Cons:

  • Add a bit more to the home page.
    • A lot of 'white' spaces seen
  • Please rename the projects 2, 3, 4
  • Add a few descriptions on the projects themselves
  • Give a little more than "I am studying to become an Electrical Engineer through Wayne State University."
  • Add a photo of yourself
  • Add a little more to contact info than just Michigan
    • Better not make Michigan a link.
  • Add more to the Backstory page (About me page)
