Research Summaries

Primary Sources

Interview with Larry Fedor (Director of Energy Conservation)

We set up an interview with Larry Fedor asking him a set of questions about current funds and how much is given per year and through what source.  Furthermore, we ask him questions detailing what is the committee composed, how they are selected, and the bylaws they hold.  This helps us understand where we are currently so we can see where the underlying problem(s) lie.

Survey questions

A survey will be created for 200+ people and students regarding the possibility of implementing additional fees to help fund future sustainable green projects.  We will evaluate the responses using a data chart or graph per demographics.  We have plans to use Survey Monkey and other free survey creation website as well as hard copies to hand out to other classes.

SURF (Sustainable Utilities Revolving Fund) Website

http://www.sfu.ca/fs/Green-Services/SURF/

This is a funding site by the Simon Fraser University details information about how the funding process works.  Approved projects get their funding through SURF but must payback within a certain number of years.  Long term savings are then added to SURF.  Examples of projects implemented are included with cost savings per year.

Approved Fees for Higher Level Education Website

This website is a database containing universities with approved additional fees to help with their sustainable funds.  Their rate and the percent approval are given for each universities.  This website contains blogs, public news articles, and academic news articles.  Different schools have a set percentage per credit hour or a set amount (like $20) per semester.
